Date: July 24 – August 8, 2011
Duration: 15 days (13 days with us)
Activity: Class III/IV Rafting + Fishing
Meet: Moscow, Russia
Our good friend Vladimir Gavrilov will lead an expedition this summer to the Kaa-Khem River in the heart of the Sayan Mountains. The river trip will start fewer than 50 miles from the Mongolian border and cover 150 miles through remote wilderness in Southern Siberia.
You’ll start by flying around the world to the City of Kransnoyarsk, Russia. This can be done through Moscow or Bejing depending on your schedule and the direction you’d like to travel around the globe. From Krasnoyarsk we’ll fly to the town of Kyzyl and board a Russian helicopter which will take us to the start of the river expedition.
The rapids on the Kaa-Khem are mostly Class II and III, but a few parts pick up nearing Class IV. Highlights of the trip will be the fishing, amazing scenery, absolute wilderness, and visiting small villages of “non believers” along the river. We’ll have ample time for hiking, fishing, relaxing, and exploring this part of the world that few people visit.
