Join us for our annual Bluegrass on Whitewater trip with acclaimed bluegrass musicians Laurie Lewis and Brandon Godman on Oregon’s spectacular Rogue River.
For years, we’ve teamed up with Laurie and Brandon for a special river trip that combines two of our favorite things: multi-day whitewater rafting and live bluegrass music. We alternate between the Rogue River in Oregon and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, and this year we’re heading back to the Rogue.
It’s hard to imagine a better combination. Spend your days rafting through exciting whitewater, swimming in clear water, hiking to historic sites, and exploring the remote Rogue River Canyon. Then, after we pull into camp and dinner is underway, the guitars and fiddles come out.
Laurie Lewis has been joining us on the river for more than 20 years and is one of the most respected musicians in bluegrass and acoustic music. A Grammy-nominated musician, songwriter, singer, and fiddler, Laurie brings an incredible depth of music and storytelling to the river. She’ll be joined by Brandon Godman, an accomplished fiddler and longtime part of our Bluegrass on Whitewater tradition.
The music is casual and spontaneous, which is a big part of what makes these trips so much fun. Some evenings might turn into a full concert, while others become an informal jam around camp. Guests are encouraged to bring their own river-friendly instruments and join in. Or simply grab a camp chair, pour yourself a drink, and enjoy the music as the sun disappears behind the canyon walls.
During the day, you can choose how you want to experience the Rogue. Ride in an oar raft, paddle an inflatable kayak, take a hike, swim through calm stretches of river, or simply relax and watch the canyon go by. Meanwhile, our guides take care of the details, from navigating the river and hauling the gear to setting up camp, preparing delicious meals, and cleaning everything up afterward.
The Rogue is especially well suited for a trip like this. Its combination of fun whitewater, wildlife, historic sites, beautiful camps, and relatively short days on the water leaves plenty of time to settle into camp and enjoy the evenings.
