Excellent balance of instruction and practice

As a survival instructor for the USAF, I find the most challenging aspect of training to be the transition from textbook knowledge into practical application. Mark and Zach absolutely provided the best experience I’ve ever witnessed. Mark’s the man!

Mark Hirst is the man! No one else I’d rather learn the knowledge and skills presented in this course from. From the moment you meet him you can tell he’s not just an instructor, he’s a boater and what he teaches comes from experience. He and his co-instructor Ethan had the tough task of dealing with a classroom full of guides from different whitewater backgrounds and with varying skill levels; they managed to keep the course not only engaging but informationally dense for every experience level. It takes a lot of passion and patience to teach a course like this consistently the way Mark does. There was not a task or question he shied away from. I’ll be back again for more of Mark’s “top tips!

Excellent

The instruction was excellent and very in-depth. We had the opportunity to practice a wide range of skills, including swimming, ropework, and other rescues. The scenarios were realistic and gave us plenty of opportunities to apply techniques that we would actually use.
